Skydda relies on Alfaroc for its warehousing

Skydda is the Nordic region’s leading company specializing in occupational safety. It offers personal protective equipment to the industrial and construction sectors. Part of Bergman & Beving Group, Skydda has its Finnish head office in Lahti.

The collaboration between Alfaroc and Skydda goes back to early 2018, when Skydda decided to establish outsourced warehousing operations in Finland. Previously, the company’s customers in Finland had been served by the central warehouse in Sweden, which was not cost-efficient and meant longer delivery times.

“We arranged a bidding process to select a service provider. Soon, we realized that Lahti offered the best location for our warehouse and, as a local operator, Alfaroc made the most cost-efficient partner. We were impressed by Alfaroc’s approach to customer service and collaboration,” explains Heikki Heinonen, Vice President at Bergman & Beving Workplace Safety. Once the contract was signed, Skydda rented storage space from Alfaroc. In addition to warehousing, the outsourcing service includes reception and stocking of incoming products and picking, packing and shipping of orders.

Alfaroc performs the tasks in close collaboration with Skydda and any issues that emerge are solved openly and in a constructive manner, with the customer’s best interests at heart. “The focus is on how we could do things even better in collaboration. For example, with regard to incoming stock, Alfaroc may request that the goods be packed in a different way to speed up work at the warehouse. We can then forward the request to the supplier,” explains Heinonen. Heinonen has been impressed by Alfaroc’s handling of any problems.

“Once we were informed that a customer had not received a large delivery and it was already 5 o’clock by that time. Alfaroc’s business director arranged seven employees to work a late shift and our customers received their order the following day. This is testament to their great approach to customer service,” explains Heinonen.

Added value services speed up customer service

Alfaroc also supplies added value services to Skydda. These services include labelling of products and customization of work clothing.

“When warehousing operations and production of added value services take place under the same roof, delivery times are cut and goods do not have to be transported from one place to another unnecessarily,” adds Heinonen. As a whole, the added value services and outsourcing have brought significant benefits to Skydda. The warehouse in Lahti deals with almost all deliveries to Finnish customers, which has reduced delivery times from three days to one. In addition, the company’s order retrieval and dispatching costs have decreased.
